Performance. Look it up.

If performance is weighing you down, or you just want to get the best performance you can get, then you’re going to want to pay attention! Software, FPS Configs, and many more ways to help you become a better Scout!
We will start off with software. Software will probably help you the most to get better performance. I know of 2 software applications.
One is called “Vista Anti-Lag” AKA VAL. VAL is a small application which runs in the background preventing Windows Vista from lagging your wireless network. Now, I haven’t used this, mainly because lag isn’t a problem for me, and if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. However, my friend has used it and said it works great, and gets the job done. It also has an average of 5 stars on Wakoopa from 3 reviews. And I would like to think it’s Windows 7 compatible.
Another great piece of software, that I’ve actually used it called “Game Booster”, which works very well, and easy to use. It’s designed to help optimize your PC for smoother, more responsive game play in the latest PC games with the touch of a button, Game Booster helps achieve the performance edge previously only available to highly technical enthusiasts. It works by temporarily shutting down background processes, cleaning RAM, and intensifying processor performance.
As for FPS configs, which are configurations used to disable no-essential effects. Not my favourite choice, but most of them do work. This is one of the best configs that I have used/come across.

Instructions on how to use them are given on that page too.
